I know this was comment was made in jest, but I think it does raise a serious issue.
I'm not sure how long he(?) has been around, and I wouldn't want to tread on the toes of people who have put a lot of work into Drupal over the years, but to me the drupalicon reminds me of a typical alien and gives the impression that Drupal is for people who are a bit wierd, wacky and far-out - where as most Drupalers I've come across have been dead sound, down to earth and take issues very seriously.
I don't think it typifies the way Drupal works as a project or the way it is built as software. I know that I wouldn't use it personally when promoting Drupal to potential users.
On the other hand, it does give a (nearly) human face to Drupal that is missing from other software projects.
Thanks
Simon

I sure like Drupal, but the icon creeps me out. The large version on the site header here isn't so bad, but the favicon version looks like it's staring at me, with its head tilted down, and frowning.

!!!!
Drupal isn't a project as much as it is a religion.
One does NOT insult the holy druplicon.
Do not make us shun you =)

Downright creepy
I sure like Drupal, but the icon creeps me out. The large version on the site header here isn't so bad, but the favicon version looks like it's staring at me, with its head tilted down, and frowning.
But hey, at least it's not DotNetNuke's radiation hazard favicon!
(Sorry, I'm no graphic artist, so I wouldn't be any help in trying to come up with anything different.)
... and gives the impression
MUHAHAHAHAHA! you are not far off, there, except for the words "a bit" ;P

I kinda dig your image though
Would look nice on the right kind of theme.
Such a pity about IE sucking at translucent png though.

Do like the logo... also
Do like the logo... also have liked these - prefer the top one as it symbolizes a lower case d (related discussion).
But might get us sued by Micro$oft
Because they look derivative of the Mac Office X graphics (from 2002)

The only difference as far as I can tell is that the MS ones are tilted. Oh, and the letters and colours are different :)

contribute that version?
We have a marketing resource pages and CVS repository. So if you do not mind releasing your logo under GPL, could you mail me?
Also, for general Drupal Art, I created a forum in the Theme Garden.

The druplifavicon guy does
The druplifavicon guy does look like he's frowning. It's probably sad to be squished into something that small.
