We will do it when someone submits a working and tested patch, a project we are working on needs it, or when a client wants to fund the effort for porting.

This is open source software. It is community maintained. Anyone can submit working patches and I will include them.

This way, if I don't have the time, or busy with work, ...etc. things do not get delayed just because I am the maintainer.

This sounds like an interesting learning experience for me, I've written very small simple modules before using the Pro Drupal Development book, but never have tried porting a module. If I have time before someone gets round to it, I'll give it a go.
