What is the best content type to use for OG?

Hi, I realize og_book module wasn't working properly and don't see it anyway. But what is the best content type to use for OG posts then? If I allow the regular book module, won't it become pretty clunky to add child pages for private groups once there are alot of top page public books? Is there any way to limit book creation to private groups only? Should I just make a new content type like 'group project' without the child page and printer friendly capability? I just want something that is easy to collaborate on for group work. Any suggestions or tips about what other people do would be much appreciated. Thanks!
