Hello,

I'm thinking of implementing a petition module. Is anyone currently working on this? Also, I haven't dug too deeply into the module code, can someone suggest a module that might make a good template?

A petition module would be very handy. Obviously, the OP has lost interest in this. I wonder whether any Drupal Devs are looking at creating a petition module? If I could code, I would do it myself.

How hard would it be to adapt Omega from MadArts Guestbook.module as the basis for a petition module? http://madarts.wamigge.de/node/view/628

From what I can gather, the Guestbook module allows for author, comment and URI fields. If I was running a petition, I would like to see an address field and possibly an age field.

I am going to see if CivicSpace has a petition module. If it does, will it work with Drupal 4.5? If you can provide any clues ... I would be most appreciative.

The Devs at CivicSpace are working on a petition tool. I dont think its available as a stand alone module though. If it is ... I couldnt find it.

So, its back to the Drupal Devs I guess. Does the Drupal community need a petition module? If you are running some sort of political site, it might be very handy added functionality. Especially if its attached to an article/story.

If you doing stuff w/ petitions, you may want to look at fully moving over to civic space.

Thanks for your interest Grendel. The site I want the petition to be on is not really a political site. Its just that an issue has come up and I would like to run a petition thats all.

Anyway, the CivicSpace project doesnt seem advanced as Drupal is. Perhaps I am wrong.

How hard will it be to convert my Drupal 4.5 install to a CivicSpace? I dont know if it is worth the effort simply to be able to run a petition. I know that CivicSpace is compatible with Drupal, but, I am unsure as to what the methodology would be in converting my existing site to a CivicSpace.

I have spent a lot of time on the Drupal site and dont want to loose any of the customisations I have already performed. Do you have any advice on this?

CivicSpace will eventually by fully 4.5-based, and most if not all of their modules will run unmodified on top of Drupal 4.5.

Thanks Boris. I have been following the CivicSpace development for a while. I cant wait to have a play with CS1.0 in the new year. I am a committee member of a local organisation that wants to have an internet presence. In your opinion, is it worth my while to install a pre-1.0 version of CS?

Just to let you know, I did already install the petition module into my Drupal 4.5 install. I get this error with the petition:

warning: Missing argument 3 for petition_form() in /home/banshee/public_html/webcontent/modules/petition.module on line 19.

I notice that no petition box is rendered. Also, I notice that the teaser only has an add new comment link, there is no Read More option. Not being a coder, I am clueless. Recommendations/Suggestions most welcome!

This is probably due to a change in the 4.5 core. If you open the petition.module file in wordpad or vi, it *should* have the developer's contact info. More likely than not, they are already working on a v4.5 version of this module, or may know a quick fix.

CivicSpace is a little behing normal Drupal, but will be up to 4.5 pretty soon. It is just a tweaked version, w/ some modules that most people wouldnt find useful, but would seem like a no-brainer for any site that is organizational (politics are just a facet of that).

The conversion should be pain free (but I would of cource recommend a full backup first, better safe then sorry).

Hi,

I've been working on my own litle Petition module from scratch.
It includes creating petitions with some customizable checkbox fields (four at the moment), so that the person who issued a petition can add aditional questions to the visitors.

At the moment only user with permission to edit petitioners can add/edit one, because it was enough for my needs.

In future I'was thinking to include a block where every visitor can sign the petition.

I know it's not much but it's a standalone module that only needs some more coding and it could be prety good addition to your site.
Here's the demo of how it looks for now. It's a Slovenian page but you'll get the idea: demo

If there's anyone interested in this I can add the module to CVS.

I'd really like to get a petition module that includes e-mail capture, and maybe other form info as well. The only ones I've found are several years old and for Drupal 4.x. Is there anyone working on something like this for Drupal 6?

the petition module has been abandoned an isn't compatible with civicrm 3.
Although, you can try this one, i think it will be useful.
