I'm looking into using drupal for my own site and am interested in seeing how "the big boys" do drupal.

I am looking for the biggest, best, most popular, and most professional drupal based sites.

I'll start:

1. SpreadFirefox.com

In the case of www.NextBillion.net we have helped bring together a community of business leaders, social entrepreneurs, NGOs, policy makers, and academics from 60 different countries who want to explore the connection between development and enterprise. Each audience can control the content and news uniquely appropriate to their interests. This website serves as a separate campaign site for the World Resources Institute (WRI). Nextbillion.net is critical to helping promote and expand WRI's central identity and mission to the large diverse groups and businesses who interact on the site everyday.

Just wanted to point out that in all of my browsers on all of my machines your header is garbled. There are large patches of neon green pixles and all of the animated portion is black and chunky. I am sure it is not as intended as it looks like your flass application went through some bad TV static.

You don't say what you mean by biggest? Number of hits? Number of users? Most famous? Most innovative? Best looking theme?

Anyway, here are some off the top of my head:

2. http://kerneltrap.org is a technical site that receives a LOTS of hits.

3. http://ourmedia.org and http://www.nowpublic.com are some innovative sites that use Drupal in a different way than most

For themes, see the Drupal showcase for some unique looking ones.

The http://drupal.org/drupal-sites page has 739 sites, but that is not all Drupal sites. Some (like my sites) choose not to enable the ping module.

It would be really nice if the above page has some of that info (however, how do we prevent a site from claiming absurd numbers?)

This is also a great looking site: http://www.terminus1525.ca/

This thread also lists a lot of great looking sites: http://drupal.org/node/7443

Of course, I always reference Drupal.org as one of the "best" and "biggest" Drupal sites.

Yeah it really depends. A really small site could serve a huge need and serve the need very well...and so does that make it better than a really big site? Maybe for those to who it serves. But then, if you're talking about biggest and best in terms of handling lots of traffic and new content creation, that is more specific...

www.linuxjournal.com and the Doc Searls site.

They are big enough, I guess

Here is a site that I have been working on for some time. I used a few different themes and combined them. It includes the basic content functionality as well as a forum and many other add ons. It is currently not that big but its getting bigger. Id appreciate any feedback. Its targeted at small business owners looking to learn how to market online.

Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE uses Drupal as its content management system. The site was the 6th visited site in Finland last week (http://www.gallupweb.com/tnsmetrix/site.aspx). Their use of Drupal is expanding all the time and many of company's subsites are based on Drupal, like:

I consider YLE's usage of Drupal as their CMS as a great job!

Ian, how much does a site like that cost to design and develop (time and money)? I'm getting together some financial specs for a client I'm working with as a project manager, and I'd like to get them a ballpark figure.

Thanks much,
Carrie

I've created a system that detects what backend is behind websites and joins this with information on Alexa ranks. One result is a continously updated list of Drupal-based websites. You might know some of them already, but there may be some surprises! :)

Rather than spamming forum threads like this people would do so much better by putting their website's URL in the signature and respond to questions and needs of the other Drupalers in the forums. See below :)

Hi Guys,

I was interested in finding out what the largest drupal deployment was. I saw a similar question in this post but it seemed to demostrate websites and not numbers. I am interested in deploying drupal but i was looking to see if anyone knew what the largest number of registered users in a single drupal deployment were???? What can drupal support (transactions) or is this more driven by LAMP or MySQL???

I'm quite new to Drupal so be kind please...

Thanks

WorldFallz’s picture

Depends on what you mean by 'largest'. Largest amount of registered users? Largest amount of anonymous viewers? Largest number of page views? Largest number of unique visitors?

Right here on drupal.org, you yourself are user #1,411,324. http://examiner.com is probably another 'large' site.

See http://showcase.acquia.com for some other candidates.
