I'd very much like to add alarms. There's no big problem adding the iCal text, just need some ideas on where and how you would set this up in the UI. Where would this information be coming from?

For starters, I think you could add it to the export function and expect the caller to supply the data. i recently called this function directly when needing to add an 'add to calendar' link.

As a second step, I think you could add this as an option to the date field just like 'end date'. it would be reminder duration and default to 15 minutes. this option would do nothing on display but would show up in the widget and in the ical.

I started by adding the valarm template in the D6 version (haven't backported it to D5 yet). That part is easy. The question is what you want to happen. There are three types of iCal valarms -- display, email, and procedure. Probably only the first two make sense for us. They both need alarm text and settings for when the alarm would happen and if and how often it will repeat (that setting would look like '-P1D' for 'one day ahead of the event), plus the email alarm needs a comma-separated list of email address for who should get the email and a subject line for the message.

Then we should also think about how we want to implement alarms in this module. It would make sense that any alarm we add to the ical would also be handled internally.

So this may shape up as an optional module that would add these options to the settings, and the ical export, and implement them in the date and/or calendar display.

Version: 5.x-2.x-dev » 6.x-2.x-dev

And at this point we're probably looking at a D6 feature that could potentially be backported to D5.

Ping: Is this still valid?
Should probably move to the D7 list, but I will leave it for now.

Unfortunately the Drupal 6 version of the Date module is no longer supported. That said, we appreciate that you took time to work on this issue. Should this request still be relevant for Drupal 7 please feel free to reopen it. Thank you.
