Themes/Modules - Status...not being updated??

kbhasin - March 12, 2008 - 05:15

Ive noticed several themes and modules that were released for drupal 5.x sometime 6months-1yr+ ago... that under the status say: development snapshot, but from the comments, and from trying them out, i have no had any problems.

ex.
http://drupal.org/project/formbuilder
http://drupal.org/project/art4_blue

So are the above..specifically the the theme, complete or not? I know most that are in beta or alpha stage, the authors state that, but are the statu's just not updated, or are these still under development?

and my question is general,

and my question is general, ive noticed this with several themes and modules.

me too, not sure what it means - perhaps 'use at own risk'

whenever i see 'dev' only releases, and last activity was last fall or early 07, i try to stay away - otherwise i visit support items for that module/theme to see if people or the developer are still working on it or fielding questions...unfortunately, many themes and modules are abandoned over time, though then again many are 'just okay' or buggy anyways...

Dev means development

Anything in a dev release is still considered in development. The maintainer(s) have not deemed it to be a stable release yet. That does not mean you can't use it, but there may be known issues (check the issues queue and any release notes. It's also possible that you'll run into other issues depending on your use of the theme or module.

If you really want to know what the status of a project is, try contacting the maintainer, or post a support request in the queue for that module or theme. You'll often find valuable information if you read the support and issue queues before posting, as someone else may have already asked the same question.
