I'm using attachment.module instead of upload.module so I've modified inline to work with attachments as well as uploads. In this version, if no title is specified in the tag then the attachment title is used. Otherwise, all functionality is the same as inline v1.8.
Diff file is attached. I am new to both Drupal and PHP so the code may be suspect :)
Thanks,
Dave

matteo commentedThanks for your contributions, I'll take a look at the code ASAP.
I don't know how 'popular' is attachments.module, but I think that this feature could be useful.

matteo commentedAfter taking a look at the modifications needed to the module to support attachment.module, I would prefer to wait for the new Drupal to come out to decide what to do, fix some bugs and add new features.
So, ther will be some delay before coming out with attachment support.
Sorry

dave_b commentedHi Matteo,
OK, I'll just keep using my patch as it is for now. I've noticed that there are a lot of new ideas about attachments floating around and probably some changes coming in the future so it's probably a good idea to wait for now
Thanks,
Dave

sunMarking this as dupe of http://drupal.org/node/62741, since #62741 is for 4.7.
