image-import failure why?

I wonder why I can't get image-import to work.

Everything appears to work smoothly, according to preview and to submit a folder of images. I have a gallery configured in categories to post image-upload content.
However, the gallery remains empty. I have tried several times, the cvs and the 4.6 downloads. The errors I have got are:

getimagesize(): Read error! in /home/mightyz/public_html/press/includes/image.inc on line 88.

File copy failed: source file does not exist.

any ideas?
