Apologies for n00bness, I am very new to Drupal. (2 days!)
Using Drupal 5.7, Image 5.x-1.8 and Image Assist 5.x-1.5. I have problems with TinyMCE too, but I think this issue causing the problem.
Image is installed and works fine. Image installer shows the "add image" graphic at the bottom of textareas, as it appears it should, but when an image is added it adds a line of code like the following:
[img_assist|nid=20|title=Compact logo small|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=27]
This does not translate into a displayed picture, either in the preview textarea or in the published page. There are no errors in the log entries, this happens both in FF2.0 and IE7, and the same behaviour comes up when using Image 5.x-2.0 Alpha and Image Assist 5.x-1.6.

optix commentedSorry, should have said:"...works fine. Image assist shows the "add image"..."

daemonchrist commentedJust wanted to say "me too": Drupal 5.7, Image 5.x-1.8, Image Assist 5.x-1.6
Turns out in my case, the "Inline Images" filter was turned off under Site Configuration->Input Formats.
Is the same true for you?

sunI guess so - you should have read INSTALL.txt, which is mentioned on the project page and included in the download package.

optix commentedThe filter was turned off - thanks people. However, that solution had occurred to me, I just didn't know where to find the option. I was assuming that "Full HTML" would allow everything - this is clearly not the case. As I said - apologies for n00bness...
