Fancy putting a face to some Drupal.org usernames?

Well if you're in London on July 10th, here's your chance. The first Drupal UK meet up will take place over a traditional Sunday roast pub lunch (vegetarian option also available).

Any and all Drupal topics will be up for discussion, and all are welcome. One thing we'll definitely be talking about is the Drupal stand in the .Org village at LinuxWorld Expo (London Olympia - October 5-6, 2005).

This is a Young's pub, so the ale is excellent, the food is good, and there's a beer garden if we get lucky with the weather. Let me know if you're likely to attend so I can secure a big enough table.

I'm going to Scotland for 2 months, then to Belgium for a whole year. Are there any community meetings? do you think I can find there a job as a coder for Drupal CMS?

- I wonder how am I perceived when passion enters me :-) -

Robert Castelo’s picture

Not sure how many Drupalliers are based in Scotland, you could try to organise a meeting there. You could also come to the Drupal meetings that will be taking place in England this year.

Once you're in Belgium you'll have plenty of Drupal developers to get together with.

My experience is that taking part in meetings can lead to being offered work - so far I've been introduced to two very interesting projects through attending the Antwerp code sprint.

Well, there's at least me. in Glasgow for at least another 6 weeks, but busy getting ready to move house...

London is over 8hrs away on the train , even flying would take several hours once you've taken into account getting to the airport and back - a bit too long just to go for a pint :)

How many other Drupalleers are there in Scotland?

Have a meeting in Plymouth (UK) and I'll be there :)

Sadly thats the weekend I am leaving London to start to 13month placement in Swindon. If there any other UK meets I would be up for going.

Robert Castelo’s picture

I'm sure there will be, also you could come to the Linux expo in October.

Safe journy to Swindon.

What a strange thing that I'll be in London that day (especially because I live in Toronto, Canada!). I'll definitely try to get out for a pint.

I am in Cardiff. An expo in Cardiff, sounds adventurous, but why not :)

We can always meet up. Ping me.

When are you planning on getting there?

You should be wearing your Drupal t-shirt. The one from the Drupal Conference in Antwerp. ;-)

PS: if you want to have Drupal t-shirts made for this event, drop me an e-mail and we'll see what we can reimburse/donate.

Robert Castelo’s picture

Thanks Dries, I'll be wearing my Drupal t-shirt under my shirt (with pride). We'll start thinking about what promotional material we need for the Linux show in October.

Actually, I think for 100% recognizability the best option is still the Drupal superhero mask. There are some action shots too. :)

Kudos to you guys for this. "It's all about the community" right? Hopefully, other Drupallers around the world will pick up on the idea and have there own gatherings.

Anybody else in or near Regina, SK, Canada? (Probably not I suppose...)

You might want to check out some of the listings which profile module generates automatically. You can click the links in user's accounts to see.

For example, all the Canadian drupallers.

Is someone going to document this meetup and follow up with a picture or two? Maybe a summary of the hot discussion topics? Like that, we have a sense of what lives in the UK. ;-)

Robert Castelo’s picture

As a lot of this meeting is going to be informal and unstructured, would
it be practicle to create a book page to report on it, get comments from people who attended, and then collate them back into the book page?

I'll be bringing my camera, so you can be sure of pictures, and captions ;-)

what about blogging about it, and maybe tagging it at technorati?

Lam0r’s picture

I will be in london on 10th of july for a wedding and it would be nice to attend this meeting but its a shame I cant enter pubs due to religious reasons. Couldnt you guys think of a more private place like a small hall ? ( in this case everyone would pay £5 or so at the entrance )

iandickson’s picture

Speaking as someone who has been involved in organising things, on a voluntary basis etc, I always get irritated when people (who don't seem prepared to do anything themselves) complain that whatever it is that others, who have got off their arses and done something, have done, isn't good enough for them.

Lamor - you have a choice - if meeting Drupal people is important, go to the pub - you don't have to drink anything. If it's not important, stop complaining. And if you really need to square the circle, I look forward to your organising a hall, in Central London near a Tube Station, for free (or end of meeting whip round).

Robert Castelo’s picture

OK, I'm curious - what religion is it that would forbid you to so much as enter a pub?

They serve food all day, so if I describe it as a restaurant would it make any difference?

If you do have to miss out on this meet up, you could always come to the Linux event at Olympia next October.

It doesnt matter which religion since most forbid such stuff depending how religious the person is. Never mind about this anyways since this is no place to discuss religion :)...

I visited the website of the pub and I wouldnt classify it as a pub :D since it looked to good for a pub with all that cuisine. I might have dropped in if I didnt leave london on saturday 9th

Personaly I dislike pubs due to the majority of the heavy smokers and smell of beer. I will be looking forward to forthcoming drupal meetings.

I see what I can do about coming It only takes an hour to get to Paddington from Swindon so I could try and swing by. Any idea what time it will go on to. I start my new job on the Monday so could not stay too late.
