There is a LinuxWorld Expo at London Olympia - October 5-6, 2005. I think it would be a good thing to attend the event, and even a better thing if we apply for a place in the .Org village. While there is time untill the deadline - August 1, I think this merrits discussion now.

I am prepared come down to London for the duration of the Expo and the Conference, but won't be able to pull it on my own. So the questions:

  • Do you think it is worthwhile?
  • Is there anyone willing/going to attend and help running a Drupal space in the .org village?
  • Anyone interested?

I'm London based, and I'm keen to help out. What's involved?

If our application is successful, we will have an exibition area or stall dedicated to Drupal. We will need to man it for two days.

From past exeprience the event is attended by a very diverse crowd - lot's of suits, sandals and of course random punters. It offers interesting networking opportunities.

I'm not sure if we can organise talks or BOF sessions. But we can always check.

So I suppose what is needed is first get organised, get a few people to come, in order to be able to man the exhibition area, I don't think only the two of us will be sufficient. Next organise marketing and publicity materials. Organise some hardware for running demonstrations, etc...

If possible and more people are coming or expressing interest organise a talk and/or BOF sessions

To discuss this further we could have an informal get-together for London Drupallers—maybe in a pub. Early July perhaps? I've been meaning to find out more about localised user groups. Is there a London group established?

Pub sounds the right place for conversation and ideas. Well, I have to come down from Cardiff, but I don't mind. I just need to know in advance. I wonder, who else is interested.

I just realised that I haven't posted any links to the expo.

LinuxWorld Conference & Expo is the No. 1 marketplace for companies that sell, market or promote Linux-Based products, services, applications and solutions. Experiencing astounding growth, it's the largest gathering of open source professionals in the world. Linux adoption has been, and continues to be, nothing short of meteoric.

Actually, it is not only about Linux, but covers a larger market. For marketeers there is an interesting overview of the attendee profiles.

The .org village is dedicated to open source projects. They claim not every project will get space, but selection is not on a first come- first serve basis.

I'm fairly new to Drupal, but I've got 6 sites under development, I'm learning fast and I'd be glad to help spread the word.

And if that means I've got to go to the pub....

I'm in Colchester, so getting down to London won't be a problem

I'd be happy to help out with the promotional material and manning the stall - as long as nobody asks me anything about Linux ;-)

I can handle the linux bit :)

And we were talking about a beer tour of London some time ago...

Mark suggested to meet in London somewhere early July - http://drupal.org/node/25141#comment-43527
I can make it only on the weekends, so which ones do you prefer - 2-3 or 9-10?

mleicester’s picture

I can do either Sunday: 3rd or 10th.

Let's do it on July 10th. I don't have a clue where, though. Oh yes, and I'll have to come back from London the same evening. Working Monday, so it would be good to arrange it somewhere noon-ish, so there is enough time to bore ouserves and pay attention to the beer as well.

Robert, any ideas for a place, hopefully in easy reach to Victoria?

OK, I've posted the meet up as an event:

The pub has a Flash(y) website, which includes a virtual tour to wet your appetite...

The beer is top-notch, traditionally brewed, and delivered each week from the Young's brewery by a horse and cart :-)

Sounds like a great idea. I'll pop down to the show, but it's a bit of a trek from Warrington/North West to London, and expensive to stay over for two days I think.
