If I try to open de.po using poedit I get the error "Failed to convert file [path]de.po to unicode" (other languages can be opened without that error).

nancydruThat may be a file that was present when the 6.x branch was initially created and would, therefore, actually be a 5.x translation. So, my initial recommendation would be to start from scratch with glossary.pot.
FrankT commentedCreating an new po-file from glossary.pot will produce the error 'Internationalized messages should not contain the \r escape sequence'!? The po-file is created, then, but I cannot say yet if there will be errors following...
nancydruDo you have any idea how to fix this? I assume it's because I develop on Windows. http://drupal.org/node/260643
Comment #4
AaronCollier commentedIt probably is from Windows or something. Anyway, it's easy to remove. Just open in a text editor and find/replace \r with nothing. Solution is attached from 6.x-.1.4. Works fine in poedit now.
The de.po file should be taken out until it is done again. I started with just a copy and paste attempt, but it is based on old versions. So there's nothing about
[no-glossary], etc. And I don't speak German, so I can't fix it.Comment #5
nancydruThanks.
FrankT commentedI replaced \r (and the following \n and spaces) in glossary.pot, looks good now. As soon as translation is complete I will provide a new de.po.
nancydruThanks. I produce all my .pot files the same way; I wonder why this is the only one that's been complained about.
AaronCollier commentedThe only place this comes up is when you have line breaks/new paragraphs within something to be translated. Looking quickly at FAQ_Ask (since you also did that one), you don't seem to have line breaks/new paragraphs within an item to be translated. It might be true with your other modules, too. So it would only come up with this file.
nancydruOkay. I would think many of my help files would have this problem.
See http://drupal.org/node/260643
And check Taxonomy Image
Comment #10
AaronCollier commentedIt definitely is in Taxonomy Image as well. Might the lack of complaints come from the things in the po folder being listed as dead files? (That seems like an odd problem to happen again.) I don't know; maybe fewer people use the translations, or maybe they don't use poedit. I think your templates generally work fine, just generate warnings in certain systems.
nancydruWell, there is no PO folder under 6.x. I don't have any 6.x translations yet for TI.
AaronCollier commentedLooking in CVS, all your po files in TI are listed as dead. And there is a pot file for 6.x. Not a big deal, though.
nancydruProbably because all the po files belong to the 5.x version, not the 6.x version. But I have an issue in to the Webmaster queue to find out what "dead" files means. http://drupal.org/node/255386
Comment #14
FrankT commentedI continued my translation based on the glossary.port provided in comment #4. So far I have trouble translating parts of the alphabet page ('http://localhost/?q=admin/settings/glossary/alphabet'). None of the options of the alphabar separator can be found in the catalog (vertical bar, e.g.)
I also cannot save text entered in the alphabar instructions box (originally filled by 'Click one of the letters above to be taken to a page of all terms beginning with that letter.', in my case by a translated sentence). When saving the page the text is resetted to the original text. I can only guess it has to do with the translation, otherwise it would be a separate bug (I can open a new issue if needed).
The 3 similar strings 'Replace with [...] link' (abbr, acronym, cite) and the string 'If you chose !icon above, enter the URL of the glossary icon relative to the root of your Drupal site.' on 'http://localhost/?q=admin/settings/glossary/filter/1' are not replaced by the translated strings in the new de.po.
Finally I translated the text in 'http://localhost/?q=admin/help/glossary' but the translation in de.po doesn't replace the text. Maybe there is another error in glossary.pot.
I also rebuilt the catalog once mor from the latest glossary.pot but there are no new strings...
AaronCollier commented1. None of the alphabar options are enclosed by
t(), so that would be a separate feature request, and not a part of the pot file.2. I'm not sure what you mean by not being able to save text in the alphabar instructions box. Can you be more specific about what you are trying to do?
3. In 6.1.4, it should say "Replace with [...] element" not link, so there are obviously problems with the version from #4. Not sure now exactly where that came from. Sorry about that. I just checked and the same's true about the "If you choose . . ." part. Those should be fixed in the new pot I'm attaching.
4. I don't think it's a problem with the pot file. I'm not precisely sure exactly what is causing it. Maybe it's from the multiple
t()s enclosed in onet()?Comment #16
nancydruI committed a fix for #1 (both branches) and #2 (6.x only).
I committed a refreshed pot file for both branches.
Where are you seeing #4?
nancydruI've tried to clean up the pot file as best as I could. Getting rid of new lines is a problem, and really is a Potx issue.
