It would be great to have a stable release to work with, so we can make update status happy :) (in fact we can have a stable point to work from).

The successor to this module, markdown just had its Drupal 5.x-1.0 release, and it includes the new help block which was new in the 6.x version of marksmarty. Also includes an updated markdown parser.
