sgdev commentedI have this same problem with 4b. Was not a problem in Beta 3 ... all titles were displayed correctly.
sdboyer commentedHeh, it's becoming increasingly clear that we really need to to break title handling down to the basics, then rebuild it again.
The problem here is that there's new code in beta4 which allows titles to be defined on a per-display basis, and it's somewhat changing the behavior of the ENORMOUS set of possible ways that a panel_page can derive its title. It should not, however, be impossible to get the same effect as before - you just might need to look somewhere a little different in order to do it. Try using the new 'display title' field that should be in your layout settings form, and see if you can achieve the same effect through there.

sgdev commentedActually with more investigation, I have found the problem for me is tied to another issue I have posted: http://drupal.org/node/263845.
The Advance Profile (http://drupal.org/project/advanced_profile) "userprofile" panel is still working with beta4, and I was able to change the "Panel Title" field on the "layout settings" tab to be %user. This changed the panel name to the user's name.
The problem I am encountering is because the OG panel is not being displayed as noted in 263845. I'm sure once we get the problem solved I'll be able to put %group in the Panel Title field and have it work ... fingers crossed. :)

While this may indeed solve my problem there seems to be one problem getting in my way of testing this out.
I get an error when accessing that page as documented here:

brunodboI had the same problem using panels to override taxonomy term pages. In the past, I used the title field in the argument configuration pop up to set the title. After upgrading to beta4b, these titles weren't displayed anymore.
Worked for me: I put %term in the 'display title' field in the layout settings form. Thanks Sam.

MediaMunkey commentedAs I mentioned before, I received an error upon accessing the layout settings page to rectify this issue.
It turns out the problem I was having has already come up and a fix documented.
I have applied the fix so now I can access the page but now another problem appears to be in my way.
I don't see a 'display title' field on the page. I'm not sure if this is related to the code fix not working so here's a pic of what I get on the page.
The page is a single column layout. Am I supposed to be seeing anything else?
sgdev commented@MediaMunkey: I'd caution that the layout settings error has not been completely fixed. See the post I made here: http://drupal.org/node/262956#comment-864140

MediaMunkey commentedI have fixed my problem with the 'display title' field not appearing.
It turns out you MUST set a default title for the panel page otherwise you can not change it on the layout settings page.
I entered %user into the title field and now the page correctly shows the user's name for the page title.
Everything is working as expected now. Cheers.
I'll add though that it isn't very intuitive to have to add a default title just so you can then go and change it to something else in a completely different setting on a completely different page. As you mentioned though sdboyer, it's a bit of a mess at the moment. I'll look forward to when it can be sorted out effectively and intuitively.
Until then, keep up the good work.

sdboyer commentedIf anyone who was having this issue has a chance to test the -dev version of Panels (where the current release is Beta5), it'd be really helpful. We've tried out some new logic, and if it works, it could take care of this. In an attempt to keep things a little sane in the queue, though, I'm marking this as a duplicate of that issue.

ccdoss commentedI'm using panels 5.x-2.0-rc1a, with advanced profile. When I click on My Account, it says %profilenode. I've gone to the layout settings page, and placed a title into the title field. I've then gone to context, and tried to configure the user ID. It states %profilenode in the title. I've changed it to %user. I then go back to 'My Account', see %profilenode still. Navigate back to context to configure user ID, and %profilenode is back in the title. What am I doing wrong?

ccdoss commentedI finally figured out what was happening. The User Profile panel page caused the error. Once I disabled this, all my problems went away.
ccdoss commentedActually, my problem didn't go away. I just disabled the panel, which isn't a fix at all. Still wanting to know how to fix the %profilenode problem.
