Gaming CMS Website
Hello
Right now I have a Wordpress site, were I post the newest stuff about games, but it's not designed for it.
I tried Drupal back when it was still in development, and I see that it has grown to a big scale. I was wondering if Drupal have some kind of module (?), who can give me the same functions as igamingcms, but better working and maybe a few more functions, like auto-gen of thumbnails, screenshots for both folder reading, and direct upload.
The problem with iGamingCMS is that it seams that people left it, like with many other gaming cms systems.
It's pretty easy to find CMS-systems who supports flash-game-based-websites, but really no user-friendly gaming CMS who is being up2date?...
Can you guys give me any help?... Ask questions if you have any...

there is no "gaming cms
there is no "gaming cms module". Modules are pieces of functionality (some very small, some very large) but they are generally not complete site solutions. There is some working being done with install profiles (more along the lines of what you are asking for) but none for gaming sites that i know of.
If you wish to use drupal for a gaming site you'll need to figure out exactly what functionality you want and employ multiple modules.

So is there multiply modules
So is there multiply modules I can use to get me close to what I want, and me editing the last few details?
absolutely-- there's
absolutely-- there's probably hundreds of modules addressing all different functions. For me, I found the best way of learning what was out there was taking a couple of hours and reading through the module descriptions. It may seem tedious, but what I did was print out the module listing by name pages and read through them and made notes right on the printout. I noted which ones I definitely wanted, which ones were maybes, and which ones I needed more info to understand.
Then I fired up a test site and started loading modules and playing with the design. One thing I learned after the fact-- now I use the demo module immediately after setting up a new drupal install to server as a "backup" (so I can revert to a fresh install with the click of a button instead of having to wipe out and reinstall drupal to start fresh).

ah yes, and don't forget
ah yes, and don't forget about the really handy module finder at http://drupalmodules.com/ you can search for functionality there.
modules...
I'm preparing list of modules for some kind of gaming site. I'm quite a newbie when we talk about knowledge of drupal and php&mysql but want to change it soon ;)
like someone said, www.drupalmodules.com is the best place to look in the first place, after looking into drupal of course ;)
ok, let's talk about some areas to cover:
1) content
1.1. news -> Innovation News, news page
1.2. games descriptions -> views, cck
1.3. games reviews -> nodereviews, simple review, nodereview
1.4. image galleries -> image module, gallery
1.5. ratings -> views voting api + fivestar, node vote
1.6. newsletter -> simpleNews, views mail
1.7. searching -> faceted search
1.8. content display ->panels, taxonomy browser, refine by taxonomy, node type filter, latest and greatest, node badges, hall of fame, xml sitemap,
1.9. misc - counter, external link popularity
2) layout and themes - Zen (very simple to edit)
3) user management
3.1. user profiles -> Advanced Profile
3.2. user award system -> Award, UserKarma, SimpleKarma, karma
3.3. user roles -> not discovered
4) forum - 2 options: core drupal forum with modules OR integration with 3rd party forum scripts like SMF or PHPBB3 - in my opinion the second option will be better
5) advertising -> Advertisement, click thru tracking, baner rotor module
6) administration etc. -> captcha (antispam), poormanscron, seo checklist, abuse
I don't know if the modules mentioned above work with each other, haven't checked most of them yet, but I think it's a good list to start with
just a friendly comment or
just a friendly comment or 2... don't make the mistake I did and load up every module that looks like it might provide something useful (particularly with regard to node listing/presentation/browsing modules), lol. There's almost nothing cck/views/panels/nodequeue and some theming can't do. There's a couple reasons for this-- one is to avoid module bloat, but the other (and probably more important) is the lag between upgrades and/or possible module abandonment. I found that most of the little single function modules that do something that can be done another way (like with views) tend to be left behind. You can virtually guarantee that cck, views, panels, and nodequeue will be maintained and be among the first modules to be updated for new versions of drupal.
Also, be sure to browse the wonderful http://drupaldojo.com repository of videos-- there's tons of valuable info there to help you learn the system.
good luck....

I knew I wouldn't be the only one
Which is why I started this thread here :)
GameDB Installation Profile
http://drupal.org/node/282165
I'll write it up (the work thus far) - Post the documents over at http://www.wii-view.co.uk
N.B. Before you all go rushing off to look at it, the full design is on a local test server!
What is live ATM is the base install (Drupal + a few base modules: Analytics, AdSense, Captcha etc.)
When there's more to see live, I'll let you all know
Subscribe / post to the GDB-IP thread linked at the top of this post if you're interested in collaborating on the project
Thanks
