Hi,
I have created a new content type in which I have an image field. When adding new content I am presented with an [Add Image] link. I have attached a screenshot of the popup window that comes up. I am unable to select the file, and when doing any other operation the browser(s, safari, firefox, os x) is busy (freezes) for a little too long. Help greatly welcomed.

try using 6.x development version. disable/clear drupal's/browser's cache.

Looks like you have firebug installed and it has reported 4 errors.
Can you open the firebug console and let me know what the errors are.
