I translated OG into german, the de.po file is attached.
Some strings in the OG user interface are not extracted by potx into the po file, I list them below (on english to find the reason why they are not extracted (maybe they have somthing in common), and in german to help users translating these strings via http://localhost/?q=admin/build/translate/search)

FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commented@hass, following http://drupal.org/node/270469: Currently, membership request or similar strings are translated as 'Antrag auf Mitgliedschaft'. In the dictionary 'request' currently is not defined, in my opinion it shold not be changed into 'Antrag auf (?) Mitgliedschaft' or 'Mitgliedschaftsantrag', due to the context of approve/approval, which is usually 'Genehmigung', or the context of deny 'ablehnen'.

hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedOG will have a big directory restructure... and then we need splitted po files. After this restructure is done we start to update the translation... and please provide only patch files against latest D5 translation. Is this file based on OG 7.2 DE (only in CVS)? the missing strings are view strings... this is highly changing... I'm waiting for a solution of #262879: Exports: t'ify view templates by default.

hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedpostponed to RC or later beta when strings are more stable.

FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedAs an attachment I append a newer de.po, which applies to V6.x-1.0-rc1 to be commited to CVS. I changed the status to active.

hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedAside, could you please help on the D5 version? If we have this completed it would be easy to move to D6.
hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedI've merged the current OG translation with the file provided in #4. The DIFF is attached. I appreciate your work, but read this diff please. Sorry, but this translation needs much work. Also read the rules at http://de.kkaefer.com/node/1.
Only a very few samples: "*... kommt hier.", "Alle Gruppenbeiträge in die unten aufgefürte Gruppe verschieben.", "Reiter" is a "Tabulator", "Wenn deaktiviert werden die Standard-Blöcke der Gruppen nicht angezeigt werden,.." (sounds not like German) could possibly start with "Sobald deaktiviert, werden die standardmäßigen Gruppen-Blöcke nicht angezeigt bis diese in der Seite eingebaut werden...", etc.
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedThanks for the partly constructive critique, but I also think that my translation is beyond the current translation.
I replaced all 'kommt hier' strings by 'wird hier angezeigt' as it was before, the exception was 'Faces go here' which I translated to "Gesichter kommen hier' instead of former 'Gesichter kommt hier' which is no german, too.
Following are extracs of the patch to show which major modifications I also made:

According to http://cvs.drupal.org/viewvc.py/drupal/contributions/translations/de/DIC... 'tab' must be translated to 'Reiter'. I'm not lucky about this, too, but I can live with it. I also changed all translations of 'checkbox' into 'Ankreuzfeld'..
I'm also not happy about avoiding 'Sie' by passivating all sentences. I continued to use 'Sie' to get a much better readability for a user.
Feel free to change translations or to correct misspelled words. I went through the translation once more (within poedit with no spelling check) and appended the new de.po. But the longer I read, the less I see.
I will stop to make corrections for a while to avoid duplicates/differences. According to this I would appreciate if you would post your later translation here. Feel free to contace me via my profile, so we can use german.
Finally I want to confirm, that I am still willing to work on the translation, doing it together will make it best.

FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedI just say that there is a rc2, because there was one new/changed string, there is a slightly changed de.po attached to this.

I guess you worry about 'Sie' within the sentences, but how can we avoid it here.
I continued to work on the translation, it is appended again. You may still edit strings if you provide better stings.
hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedYep, you are using "Sie" and "Ihr" everywhere. We should avoid this non-passive writing whenever possible. I'm working on your diff's for some hours and will try to provide the list of strings that "needs work" hopefully later the day...
Your translation is very helpful as I don't need to rethink all, but I'm spending a valuable time on rewriting them and I would be happy if we could avoid this more or less in future. Review the diff's/changes later to learn from this changes or discuss them later - for future, please.
Contains tooo much commas in strange positions and should be rewritten.

FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedOK, I will think about a better solution for the first sentence (although it should be correct currently).
I also modified

Could you tell me how to use 'typografisch korrekte Anführungszeichen (any Alt-Code?)? Same with Apostophe(').
Will wait for your next comment before posting a new translation. I still offer to contact me by email (via my profile) so we could talk german...
hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedI've committed the latest version to D5 branch.
For D6 we really have a big job to do... first we should really fix the buggy strings in code and then start translation as it will break many old strings. I found so many context sensitive strings that could get broken if used otherwise :-(. All this and some more strings are marked in the PO with "context sensitive" comments. I've already done a code style review regarding D6, but I could missed many bugs. We don't really need this, but we should get the used strings stable in English first.

Thanks for the work!
hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedFor your info. I have created a POT from latest code and updated the German translation file regarding this changes. There are over 60 outstanding strings that needs work.
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedYou can send me the pot file or a po file, if you want me to work on the outstanding strings. You can also mark the translated strings that need work.
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedI updated the translation to RC3 and worked on the strings to match the standards. The remaining sentences with ‚Sie‘ in my eyes should not be changed (others are worse to understand than before but comliant to the german translation standards).
There are some minor things in the source strings:
lines 1359 and 2161: Shouldn't they end with a dot?
lines 1835 and 1904: shouldn'T they end with a question mark?
Finally, our goal should be to get a good (maybe not perfect) translation into the final release of OG to have one translation across all german users of OG.
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedI changed the translation of line 1424 due to an error, a new de.po is appended. In my eyes the translation is good enough to be included in a final release (and is definitely better than having multiple translation start from the scratch).
hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedI don't like to commit strings that "are better than nothing" and not good. There are many typos, strange commas, etc. We have no good chance to find this buggy strings without a complete review what would only waste days if not weeks of work. Let me say - all currently missing strings in the latest de.po in CVS needs work.
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedI did not go through what you modified. But please change 'Organische-Gruppen' into 'Organische Gruppen' if not connected to further terms...
Well, another thing has to be modified: you translated the string 'Group node' (line 456) into 'Gruppenbeitrag', but I'm sure it should be just 'Group'. It is exactly that option for a node type, that makes it serve as a group.
You also have modified a string into 'Geben Sie an, wie organische Gruppen diesen Beitragstyp behandeln sollen. Beiträge können sich als eine Gruppe oder Gruppenbeiträge verhalten oder garnicht an organischen Gruppen teilnehmen.'. There is at least one error (garnicht -> gar nicht) and 'Geben Sie an, wie' could be changed in 'Angabe, wie' to avoid the 'Sie'.
I hope those first strings I came to see are not representative for your modification of the translation.
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commented@hass: I just had a look at OG rc5, and the error reported in http://drupal.org/comment/reply/274380/945983#comment-944627 is still in OG!? We should avoid this bug in the final release!
moshe weitzman CreditAttribution: moshe weitzman commentedCan we close this? If not, please hurry if you want to get into the final release.
hass CreditAttribution: hass commented@moshe: not really... as I know I fixed all of the above.
Aside what is your timeplan for final? We have many untranslated strings and I'd like to work on this next weekend/week... hopefully this is before final!? After the big restructuring I think we should better have another RC first.
moshe weitzman CreditAttribution: moshe weitzman commentedYeah, I am just doing another RC this weekend. You will at least a week before release
Comment #32
hass CreditAttribution: hass commentedSo, string freeze with the next RC7... :-)))
FrankT CreditAttribution: FrankT commentedI had a short look at the translation of RC7.
The (so far) only thing to be definitely corrected in my eyes is the dash in 'Organische-Gruppen', the menu entry. See my comment #27.
Just compare 'Deutsche Bahn', 'Gaisburger Marsch', 'Potzdamer Platz', der 'Große Wagen' (Sternbild), die 'Ewige Stadt', 'Weißer Sonntag', 'Heiliger Abend.
Please remove the dash!
