Hi,
This is really just a question. I have a site where all content is based on a Vocabulary, which has many terms. All node types are associated with a term. I would like Authenticated Users to be able to create Forum Topics related to other nodes that already exist on the site. Ideally, if you were in the 'Music' section of the site, and clicked to create a Forum Topic, by default it would be tagged with 'Music'.

I can see how to force the Users to choose a term, but since I have many terms, there is a chance they will mis-tag the Forum Topic, so I would like the tag to be chosen by default -- they would have to actively change it.

Is there any way this module could do that?

Any help/tips are greatly appreciated.

p.s. Because I have so many terms, I would not want to create a new content type for every Vocab term.

No, the Taxonomy Defaults module cannot do this, and it wouldn't make much sense to add such a feature to this module, since this module is all about tying terms to content types, and you explicitly don't want to create a bunch of content types.

I don't see another module that will do this out of the box, either, so I'd take this question to the Forum.
