I know I'm fairly new to Drupal, so I guess I've made what appears to be a classic newbie boo-boo in upgrading my site from Drupal 5.7 to 5.8. That is, all of the content entered within the FAQ module is missing when you view that from the menu system. The content is all still there, of course, and can be reached from the back-end portions of Drupal. Furthermore, all of the custom URLs for that content setup through the Pathauto module are just fine. Which should mean that links provided in the XML sitemap or created by others linking to my site are just fine. (Crossing fingers!) Also, the categories and so forth I created in Taxonomy seem to be fine too.

What I'm confused on is the what and the where of correcting this short of removing all of that content and re-entering it. (Which I've had to do in some of my past upgrades, as I didn't know what else to do to correct it!) Somewhere in the database, but some help would be appreciated in where to look. Trying to compare the backup I made prior to this upgrade and what's there now might help, if I had any idea where to look.

Also, if anyone knows what the heck I did wrong in following the upgrade advice included in the core Drupal product, I'd sure like to know! I've bought about 3 books so far on the Drupal environment, and - from those - I'm becoming more aware of how everything works together. But, obviously, I've got a ways to go yet! Thanks in advance for all help!

I don't think you did anything wrong. I had the same thing happen when I applied the update. I am pretty sure I had to go back through the category module and 're-attach' the FAQ category to the FAQ content...

Had to do the same thing with the links module content...

Eric, you're absolutely right, that was what it was! I've been going in circles on this for the past 24 hours or so, as I couldn't for the life of me figure out what happened. I thank-you and my hair (what's left!) thanks you!

Been holding off on implementing something better for all of the reciprocal links and so forth I've got on my site myself, as I'm TRYING to show some restraint on the number of modules there until after I've done the v6 Drupal upgrade. Also, finding it a major challenge, in spite of all my reading, to figure out what modules I should use in support of this or that kind of function. Maybe I'm reading too much and not experimenting enough on a development install...

I have tried both the links (http://drupal.org/project/links) and weblinks (http://drupal.org/project/weblinks) module. I had serious issues with getting weblinks to work and had to drop it. I am still not sure if the module was at fault or if there was an issues because I migrated my site from Post-Nuke to Drupal.

The links module seems to do the job for me, plus is contains a 'port' of the weblinks module, so users can submit links to the site.

Back to the original issue that started this. Found the content stored in the FAQ module was still unavailable to those not logged into my site, in spite of the permission setting to allow those to view them. Had to open each item up and re-save to get them to show up! Checked over everything else, and I think everything else is set.

Appreciate the recommendation on the Link Package module (http://drupal.org/project/links), which is on my list of things to look at later. At one time, I had a lot of 'partner' links on my site for those I had collaborated with in the past. (Been building websites since 1995.) But, most of those links are not active anymore. What I'd like, when I get into re-vamping that aspect of things, is to have some means of verifying such links as being active every so often. Although I've seen some discussion on that here and there (Link Exchange Project over in Drupal Groups), I haven't seen too much progress there. I've got a lot of other things to get done on my site before I get into re-vamping that aspect so that's on the back-burner for the time being.

I was using Mambo, and then Joomla for a while, and 'discovered' Drupal late last year. For my site needs, Drupal is a better match as the forum is integrated with a nice emphasis on user management and so forth built-in. Sure, the learning curve for Drupal has been higher, but I think the pay off in flexibility and adaptability makes up the difference. My first efforts will probably in developing themes, but I look for ways to contribute where I can too.
