User cannot withdraw membership request

When I go to the group's page, on the right hand side I am showing the block with the group info. Once I submit a request to join a group, it says that the request is awaiting approval by a moderator. Below there is a link for unsubscribing/withdrawing the request. The URL points to og/unsubscribe/123853?destination=og but when I click on it, it takes me back to the list of groups but the block keep saying that my request is awaiting approval, and the unsubscribe link is still right below that message.
