Including subdirectories doesn't work if directory path is just %uid

If I have a profile for certain users with a path set as just %uid, those users cannot see subdirectories of their numbered directory, even though the "including subdirectories" checkbox is checked. If I insert something like 'u' or 'user' in front of the %uid, it works.

Is there a good reason why one has to insert 'user' or 'u'? And if so, shouldn't it be documented or some check prevent me from having %uid alone? Personally, I would prefer to have just the numbers for the directories, as it is neater. So in my eyes this is a bug! What do you think?
