This is an excellent module! Exactly what we were looking for.

How would it be possible, given that all forums are not anonymous accessible, to customize the "Access Denied" page that comes up when trying to access Forums w/o being authenticated?

Would it be necessary to change the module code, or is there some way to customize those pages without hacking the module?

That page is not controlled by Forum Access, but by the core Forum module.

You should probably be able to customize it through theming.

There's also a contrib module called Advanced Forum, which may give you more functionality in that area.
