Using CCK fullname field in a view's exposed filters

Description
I have exposed a fullname field in a view's filters, using the 'contains' operator, but entering values always results in null results.
For example, I have a user with the name Trich It. Entering Trich It, Trich, Trich*, Trich%, etc doesn't give any results.
How is this supposed to be used?
