Terms with nearly identical first letters can now be grouped together. The more technical explanation: terms with first letters that have the same equivalent in the modern Latin alphabet can be grouped. This feature is called 'Character transliteration' and a checkbox to enable it can be found at Administer > Content > Vocabulary Index > Settings.

Added the possibility to use a custom transliteration file as well. More information is available at the Vocabulary Index help pages of your Drupal installation.
