In fact, this would be rather easy to do during the bookcart fetch, as it shows along with the MARC.
I'd have to make a second request to get it per item via AJAX, though (I'm guessing this is non-realtime enough to stuff it like it was bibliographic information... e.g. "this week's issue of Newsweek is here")
