Pro Drupal Development ships for Drupal 6!

eaton - August 27, 2008 - 14:34

The much-anticipated second edition of Pro Drupal Development has shipped! Newly updated and revised for Drupal 6, it includes more than 200 pages of additional content covering the Actions API for automating complex operations, the Batch API tools for managing long or complex processes, and other new tools. As with the first edition, it covers important foundational issues like building modules, working with FormAPI and the node system, using Drupal's search tools, and more. Purchases of the book made through its web site also benefit the Drupal Association.

When Pro Drupal Development was first released in 2007, it was a runaway success, hitting the Amazon.com top 100 in just a few days. As critical tools like Views, CCK, and Drupal are shipping for Drupal 6, the book's release should help give another important boost to the Drupal development community.

Definitely worth buying

The first version was really instrumental in helping me build DrupalModules.com. The chapter on searching and indexing content was a particular highlight.

The 1st edition was a fantastic read, it was fully recommended to all my colleagues. I can't wait to get my hands on this edition. I am sure it will boost the entire Drupal community.

Great!

Helpermedia - August 28, 2008 - 22:03

The first edition has helped me a lot to get on speed with Drupal development, I really liked that every chapter was about a specific topic. Can't wait to get my hands on the new edition.

Have to buy it.... :)

Very happy to see this...

jhuckabee - August 29, 2008 - 03:19

I wore out the version for Drupal 5 which was one of the few technical books I've read front to back in recent years (next to Douglas Crockford's "Javascript: The Good Parts").

Can't wait for my copy.

clo75 - August 29, 2008 - 08:56

Excellent book !!!

We already have the previous editions in print. It's a developper book but you can also have good infomation for the designer perpective.

My opinion : the best one of all Drupal books currently available to have a global look on Drupal 6. And must have for the programmers.

Congratulations for your superbe work John !

Great!

pusle - August 29, 2008 - 09:58

My copy arrived yesterday; care of Amazon.
Right now it's proudly sitting on my bookshelf next to the first edition.
I haven't had the chance to flick through it yet (shame on me!) but it looks almost twice as big (i.e. deep) as the first edition.

I'm not yet a developer, but now I have a better understanding of the infrastructure, themeing, and many other aspects. And I've only skimmed it.

Edited by BioALIEN: removed the endless "D6D6D6". Please be sensible when posting!

Increased thickness

koorneef - August 30, 2008 - 05:01

My copy arrived yesterday (pre-ordered it on Amazon.com). The thickness of the book increased from 22.5 to 33.0 [mm], that's almost an 50 % increase.

The main TOC is almost the same, I didn't compare paragraph for paragraph: the book has 667 pages !

I'm very happy with this book and it came just in time.

As a beginner. One less page

socceronly - August 31, 2008 - 16:14

As a beginner.

One less page would seem appropriate right now.

I go buy.

Chris Charlton - August 29, 2008 - 16:15

I buy. Now.

Congrats!

morbeer - August 29, 2008 - 16:23

I saw that this book was coming out a month or so ago on amazon and I pre-ordered it. It should be at my house when I get home today. I'm looking forward to reading it. =)

yep, have 2 books on the way. I am sure it will be information overload for a bit, but i am well practiced at that just starting out with drupal and sorting through the modules.

I really have a problem with having to get books made from paper..We need those trees for other stuff, don't we. I have not bought a paper book for 10 years and assumed they were extinct.

Simply great

jan0sch - September 2, 2008 - 21:45

I bought the first edition and was well pleased with it and had high hopes for the second one. Well, I wasn't dissapointed. ;-)

Everyone who is into drupal coding should have this in his book shelf.

This is truly a book that

himerus - September 3, 2008 - 02:42

This is truly a book that you can't live with out as a Drupal developer. Personally, I've been using Drupal for almost 3 years now, and it still has TONS of invaluable information that continue to push my Drupal development to the next level.

I wrote a fairly detailed review here. I own both editions now, and even still the first edition is very useful for reference on projects that are still stuck with Drupal 5.

It's a good book, and a must have!!
