I am interested in creating Hindi PO files for Drupal.
I read a lot on transaltion. downloaded the required software like gettext and PO files.
But do not know where to go from there......... I have hindi fonts installed.
Anything else I am missing?

All you need to do is to translate as many strings as you can and then zip the small PO files, create an issue against the translations project. I will then put them into CVS. You should also create a project and apply for cvs access so you can upload subsequent translations yourself.

Hi,

I have started translating Drupal in hindi and have been able to cover some of the text.

Would you like to help?

The project page is at http://drupal.org/project/hi, and you can get the latest files from cvs.

If you don't have a cvs client, please ask me and I will send you the latest copy of the file.

Hello

Speak to Karunakar from the Indlinux Group, he is working on the translations for Drupal in Hindi. I dont know how much he has done, but its worth a look. Also please try to make it for the Indlinux Meet ( 12-15 September 2005 )

Also please join #drupal-support and #indlinux on irc.freenode.net

You need the PO templates that we distribute here:
http://drupal.org/project/drupal-pot

Load them into your PO editor and start translating away. :)

You can either create them yourself using the extractor.php file that comes with the PUT templates for core, you can ask the module author if he can create them or you can ask me to do that. Just create a list of modules for which you need POT files and attach it to an issue against the POT files. Please include version numbers.

HI ,
I am also tring to translate Hindi. for your problem - there is a one way. try to write hindi with any unicode editor and just copy and paste it. this is my way of working.

keyvez’s picture

I agree with Neel about copying and pasting from a site,

These are the tools I use to get Hindi words

1. http://www.shabdkosh.com/ English to Hindi translation site
2. http://gopi.united.net.kg/ucedit/Hindi.html Phonetic Hindi typing, you can learn how to type in hindi using your keyboard in an hour

Once you have your string, you can paste it into your po editor window.

I have started translating Drupal in hindi and have been able to cover some of the text.

The project page is at http://drupal.org/project/hi, and you can get the latest files from cvs.

If you don't have a cvs client, please ask me and I will send you the latest copy of the file.

Hi Santosh ,

I am working on Drupal Hindi. We can make a group. Someone has started a hindi translation before but, I dont know what went wrong with them. They are not working now. I have allready done some work.

As you say you are new. I think I have to introduse you some facts.

For Translation of drupal we have to translate drupal's '.po' files. with a poeditor , you can find all info in translation section.

Then for hindi we have to decide some standerd for translation. and at last we will relise it here.

feel free to contact me. my email id is neelg22[at]rediffmail.com plz use @ instade of [at].

ok bye.
