This module seems somewhat similar in purpose to the flickr module - http://drupal.org/project/flickr
That one specifically provides an image filter, but could also do lots of other things since it provides wrappers around the flickr API. Perhaps you could join forces with drewish?

I've contacted drewish. This module is simply an API, and this module uses phpFlickr (which "Flickr" doesn't), but even so I really hope that "Flickr" and other Drupal Flickr modules can use and help maintain this module.
