The html-elements.css is commented out in the .info file but the README did not say so. So when I go edit the css file, nothing happen to my page because it goes back to the base theme. I am new to theming so took me a while to realize this.

Also it would be good to advise people to turn off css optimization when doing theming to see what css are generated.

Title: A small error in README.txt » html-elements.css not enabled in STARTERKIT
Status: Active » Fixed

Yeah, I had already noticed that. The fix is to remove the ; before the html-elements.css line in the STARTERKIT.css

Fixed in the -dev version. http://cvs.drupal.org/viewvc.py/drupal/contributions/themes/zen/STARTERK...

I uncommented the ; before the html-elements.css in the STARTERKIT.info file, but I'm still having the same problem, the theme refers to zen/zen instead of my custom sub-theme. I have to change the zen/zen/html-elements.css instead of to my custom theme.

@lindsayo, after making changes to your sub-theme's .info file, did you rebuild the theme registry? http://drupal.org/node/173880#theme-registry
