Yep.

Thanks. :)

Why did you not search?

Do you still have the box your computer came in?

Last time I did a search in the how-tos, I didn't find enough info. Nobody answered, either.

As for the insult - 7.8. I've seen better, but I've seen a lot worse, too.

Well then by all means never search again. Afterall, the best way to learn how to search d.o. effectively (at least until the site is upgraded) is to never bother to try, lol.

Nobody answered, either.

Nor are they likely to when they know the answer can be found by entering a few keywords into a search.

hmm... i'd go 8.5-- it made me smile, i'd forgotten about that page, lol.

I have been appropriately schooled. Perhaps I should get over my gollumy reaction to searching...

...'We hates it, my precious. We hates it cause we never find stuff!'

Insofar as you have been helpful, you are thanked.

You are both too generous, it was just a jaded reaction to a question that rated about 2.5 on the "good questions" scale.
Glad you didn't feel the need to take it personally. ;-)

The internet allows me to appear more rational than I am, because I cool down faster than I type.

This is how I do things (for both Drupal core and modules, using SSH which is very fast once you get the hang of it): http://drupal.org/node/297496

Not all updating attempts go as planned. If you need help migrating from 5.x to 6.x, here are a couple of PHP scripts to migrate useres, nodes, forums, etc.: http://drupal.org/node/308187

Narf the Mouse’s picture

To note, I'm upgrading within 6.x.

Also, thanks again.

chasz’s picture

i would like to know too :D

not that i need to upgrade since i started in D6.4

avadhutp’s picture

Oh. The just
0. Backup everything
1. download the new module tar.gzs
2. unzip them in your site>all>modules directory. Overwrite the older ones.
3. Go to your status page and run the update.php script to update the database.
4. check for errors.

Voila!

chasz’s picture

and the core ?? :D

silverwing’s picture

backup database,
backup /sites/default/settings.php,
overwrite the old files with the new,
run update.php.

~silveriwng - and backup the database....

OMG this is exactly why dman had temporary insanity. Please tell me you're kidding:

First, how about checking out the very nice UPGRADE.txt file that comes with each and every drupal installation.

Second: Documentation -> Getting Started -> Upgrading from previous versions (be sure to look at the URL of that one!).

Third: Drupal 6 - Overview, Installation & Upgrading which includes Drupal Upgrade Tutorial (from 6.x to 6.y) and Upgrading from Drupal 5.x to Drupal 6.x.

Fourth: Upgrading Drupal modules.

This doesn't include the 230982037098423 posts with answers on the same topic that can be easily found with google and even the d.o. native search.

Exactly how many times are people expected to type the same exact answer to the same exact question over and over and over again because you're too damn lazy to search?? :D

How is sitting around waiting for an answer in the forums easier than checking the already very well written existing procedures?

I'm at a total loss... I know d.o. can be hard to search and some topics can be difficult to find but this is just not one of them. RTFM for goodness sakes.

omg LOL your rant is 3x longer than a simple answer ;)

yes it is-- and it demonstrates that, unlike your post for a question that's been asked and answered 10k times, i am not lazy.

I think people should reply with a link not with a paragraph of nothing.

If you just post a link to the exact page of documentation, it helps search indexation for that subject, and so making searchs easier.

The attitude is useless for other users and also for search engines...

is that when I searched, this is the first thing that popped up. %D

search tip: filter by "book pages" when you hit the result page. it's in a block over to the right

Nothing worse than rude idiots in a forum. If you don't like a question, just don't answer it.

Nice work promoting the Drupal community guys.

WorldFallz’s picture

uh no... actually there's nothing worse than forum vampires who comment upon others' volunteer efforts when, in three years, they couldn't be bothered so much as to answer a single question for someone else.

Here's another thought... if you're not going to help anyone else, don't bother posting at all.

unbelievable.
