Design contest: LinuxWorld 2005 t-shirt

Robert Castelo - September 14, 2005 - 14:48

Sharpen your pencils because Drupal will be exhibiting at London's LinuxWorld 2005 show this October, and we need a t-shirt design to commemorate the event. The winning entry will be printed up for the Drupal stand attendants to wear, plus for anyone who requests one, and the designer will get a t-shirt as well. Entries must be submitted by September 25th. The ultimate decision of which design wins will be left to Dries (or anyone he delegates).

Technical Details

The designs will be printed A4 (maximum) onto white t-shirts. We will use full colour printing.

Rules

  • All your work must be free of copyright, and therefore may not include any copyrighted materials.
  • Don't include anything which might possibly cause offense.
  • Make us look good. ;-)

Submitting

Post a link to your designs below.

Designs should initially be submitted as low resolution JPG or PNG files (height and width 500px maximum), the winning design can be sent either as an EPS or high resolution JPG, PNG or TIFF file.

Winner

Here's the voting by the panel of desk jockeys:

3 votes http://gundalo.openartmarket.com/node/53
2 votes http://www.cortextcommunications.com/downloads/tshirts/02.jpg
1 vote http://members.aon.at/rotkaf/preview01.html

And the winner is...... Gundalo with this design.

Well done, and many thanks to everyone who participated, nice to see so many great designs!

Nevermind :)

webchick - September 14, 2005 - 22:02

I asked what the submission rules were but the description has been updated. Thanks!

AfterDeath Graphics submissions

pfmj2005 - September 15, 2005 - 03:02

I thought I would give a Link to my submissions and such... Being that drupal.org does not let you use the img tag. I currently have 8 submissions available and I will post again if I add more.

Here is the link to my submissions:
http://www.afterdeathgraphics.com/home/image/tid/3

I would ask that you please comment here if you like the designs or even if you hate them!

If you would like any of my entries to have text added to them please let me know and I will post them as fast as possible.

Thank You,

First impression

Dries - September 15, 2005 - 07:44

My first impression is: nice and simple but somewhat boring. I'd prefer nice, simple and a tad more creative. I miss that little extra that gives them a special or unique twist. Something that increases the "cool factor". Good candidates nonetheless. :)

Right

Robert Castelo - September 15, 2005 - 09:07

It would also be nice if the image communicated that the event is in UK and that it's part of the Linux show - although neither of those two is a must.

pfmj2005 - September 15, 2005 - 09:24

I have updated and added 2 more designs that jazz it up a little bit!
The new designs are Entry #9 & #10

9

Robert Castelo - September 15, 2005 - 12:55

As a concept I like number 9 - although the Drupal logo would need to be bigger, and the whole thing should be more stylised, i.e. the different elements should all be drawn in the same style.

[MegaGrunt]

ACK, 9 and 10 are both

Uwe Hermann - September 15, 2005 - 13:21

ACK, 9 and 10 are both nice.

bigger?

pfmj2005 - September 15, 2005 - 21:56

I was kind of wondering about what you mean by "bigger" Do you want me to make the bubble and the druplicon bigger? Do you just want me to make the druplicon bigger?

An Idea

kbahey - September 15, 2005 - 14:54

From the above list by After Death Graphics, #9 is the best.

Here are more ideas that some graphics designer can do (since graphics is not my cup of tea).

How about a if the Linux Penguin embraces the Druplicon? Or they are walking together side by side?

If you want a UK twist, then add Big Ben and the London Tower Bridge to the background.

How about something like http://flickr.com/photos/factoryjoe/43193573/ ? /join #drupal maybe?

Or something very English (in terms of sound)? Drupadelic? Drupal parteeh? Drupal lovah? Oh behave, Drupal. Tea-time with Drupal?

Be creative!

re: #14

webchick - September 15, 2005 - 22:02

If you're going to put code on a t-shirt, please make sure it is syntactically valid! Otherwise it makes us look a little silly. :)

For example:

<?php
drupal
();
?>

or:

<?php
$drupal
;
?>

but probably you'd want to do something with $drupal, for example:

<?php
eval($drupal);
?>

You could check the PHP Quick Reference to see if there are some function names that might have some "clever" meanings when applied to the name Drupal.

The Eyes!

kbahey - September 19, 2005 - 03:54

Oh man, those eyes!

They look really freaky ...

I've had problems liking the Druplicon since I got to know Drupal, and the reds in them make them even freakier.

Only after I have been on Drupal.org for MONTHS did I learn that the eyes were supposed to mean the infinity symbol. That made me stop looking under the bed before I sleep, but I still have nightmares ...

hehe.

sami_k - September 19, 2005 - 05:25

I have to agree that those eyes are freaky... I could probably add a drop shadow and glare to make them seem more like glasses (and less freaky)... If there was any inerest in me doing so. I just wanted to put an idea out there. Any one think it's a good idea, a bad idea... ???

I like but ...

Dries - September 16, 2005 - 07:31

I like. My only concern is that the Linux World text is more promintent than the Drupal text. IMO, it should be the other way around. We're trying to market Drupal, not Linux World.

Nice

kbahey - September 19, 2005 - 03:57

2 or 3 are nice.

They are simple, and give out the message. No gimmicks or deciphering: Tux and Druplicon in England ... that is it, simplicity.

I like that

dikini - September 19, 2005 - 09:25

especially #2 and #3. For #3 I would enhance it just a bit by joining the circles with "pipes", similar to joining stations on the London Underground maps, but piping in case of drupal means more than that - could be cool. It's my first day back, so I won't have time to make quick prototype for what I suggest, maybe in the evening.

a very rough mod
