Damn it.... but wont my content get lost alltogether? Or do i keep my content? By uninstalling the localizer module which i guess i have to do before upgrading to dru 6?
They said that at least the nodes content will be easy to migrate, but you'd better experiment a bit uploading a backup of the database to a test site.
That's a pity. Localizer is really great module and 'localization' included in Drupal 6 is a crap. I'll have to use Drupal 5 till localizer is ported to Drupal 6 or Drupal 7 will have real multilanguage support (as Drupal 5 with localizer).
Why not to just include localizer as a core module??
Localizer has been discontinued by its developer. It will never be ported or evolved, unless someone else volunteers to take over the project. This is not an opinion, these are the facts. Chances are that it will never happen.
Abandoned modules aren't included in core, neither whole active modules for that matter, just parts of them after discussion.
I am sure that when core developers discussed internationalization in Drupal 6 some shared your feelings about localizer and others not. But now, even if someone volunteers to upgrade it to Drupal 6, it can't be trusted to keep up updating.
You could submit a feature request for Drupal 7, to ask for something which core Drupal should be able to do, in case someone writes code for that and then it is accepted. (Drupal 6 is finished and can't get new features.)

There will not be a Drupal 6 version of Localizer. See:

So, you will need to use the core features of Drupal 6, and maybe the i18n module for some additional features.

Available modules for content translation are now Internationalization (http://drupal.org/project/i18n) or maybe Language Sections (http://drupal.org/project/language_sections).
