Description

Hi Ron, I would like to ask about your plans with the D6 release. I am now using beta8.

- when do you think you'll put the D6 branch back up?
- should we expect trouble when upgrading from beta8 to a newer version? I actually plan on using beta8 till then...
- can we help in any way?

Cheers, and hoping to see this great module back soon ;)

Please I have too much data and I can not disable this module now. When do you think you will enable this again?

#2

rjerome - September 28, 2008 - 00:46

Fear not folks, I took a few months leave of absence from Drupal over the summer, but I plan to get back at it now and hope to get this back a track in the next week or two.

I withdrew the beta8 due to some rather serious bugs that were going to bite anyone upgrading from 5.x. My goal is to provide a flawless upgrade path, thus I would rather have people wait a few weeks than knowingly allow them to use flawed code.

Ron.

Well done, please keep this alive. You can count on me testing if you like.

Is it still okay to use the one that you have for Drupal 6, if you are starting with Drupal 6?

I have that one and it seems to work okay.

However there is that big error saying - package no longer supported :/

Cheers,

Hi,

I have the old tarball for the Biblio-6.x-1.0-beta8 Biblio module. I am starting with Drupal 6 so I do not have to worry about upgrade from 5.x.

It is still okay for me to use that old version of Biblio? Will it cause any problems when I upgrade to the newest one later.

Does anyone know the answer to this question:

"I have the old tarball for the Biblio-6.x-1.0-beta8 Biblio module. I am starting with Drupal 6 so I do not have to worry about upgrade from 5.x.

It is still okay for me to use that old version of Biblio? Will it cause any problems when I upgrade to the newest one later."

I would really like to know before I get too dependent on the module.

Regards,

Ditto. This should definitely be addressed, whether or not it is safe/alright to continue using the old 6.x beta 8 that has been withdrawn.

deselaers - October 22, 2008 - 09:55

Last time, Ron withdrew the D6 module and the upgrade from the old version did not work smoothly.
However, Ron was very helpful in getting it working and it only took my a few manual sql queries to have it back.

Cheers,
thomas

Wonderful Ron.

You are always such a great help. We are holding upgrade to D6 to have this great module ready. I hope you will get some time to fix the issues.

#14

koyauni - October 25, 2008 - 23:52

I can not remove the module as I have too many records already in beta 8, I do not know if this will put my entire website in any danger.

Dear Ron,

sorry to insist, but i would really like to know if you're still planning on going on with the -beta8 ?

Im' asking because we're about to :
1) uninstall the module :-(((( (it was soooo great to have the biblio module integrated in the CMS)
2) go on using Refworks for now,
and 3) import the database once/if we can install a new solid version.

Good luck Ron, just let us know a bit more if you can,
Thanks,
Sam

How much would it cost if we all sponsor for hire a programmer to finish the job as Ron might have loads to do at this moment? Then we can add extra function such as file sharing (ebook attached to the record) and Cover page image attach as well.

#29

root_of_roots - November 4, 2008 - 15:42

anywhere from $40-$60 per hour. I don't know many hours it would take. I would not be surprised if it were more than 5 charged hours.

Hi folks,
have you tried Simile tools at MIT?
If you combine Exhibit (or Citeline) and Babel, you can get pretty close to Ron's Biblio. Exhibit does not agree too well with Internet Explorer, yet it's a quick fix for those of you who cannot wait for Ron to perfect his module. Test them side by side at my site:
http://www.cerebroperiferico.com/node/6870

Ron's Biblio is definitely faster and more compatible with different browsers yet Exhibit has a few nice things too, although its developer is also quite pressed with constant requests for updates.
Best,
Daniel

Biblio records, an important project for Education

I have asked this group to help Ron if they can :)

Our University - Central European University in Hungary (www.ceu.hu) is interested in using Biblio and we can support the development of this module if necessary. Does anyone has an idea how to do this? Can Ron recommend to hire someone who would have time and skills to finalize it?

Here is the info we need

http://drupal.org/node/51169

and here we can post the request and see how much they charge

http://drupal.org/forum/51

here is the list of people doing paid work

http://drupal.org/profile/drupal-services

We need to find a custom module developer, I think it will be token if we all share the expenses.

I have added this tread now

Frank Steiner - November 7, 2008 - 12:31

koyauni,

you haven't asked the Education group to help Ron, but you have asked them to take over maintenance of his module. Without Ron having agreed to give up the maintenance of his own module, this is an impudence!

#37

koyauni - November 7, 2008 - 12:37

This will always be Ron's Intellectual Property and no one can take that. I am sue he wants people to make use of the Module. whether someone will help or take over it will be mentioned on the module page. There many module around that the curtsey of the pioneers are preserved and credit is given. We need someone to step forward and I hope Ron will understand how desperate the situation is so he will do his bit to help.

#38

Frank Steiner - November 7, 2008 - 12:47

I do understand that, and as you can see, I've been waiting for months for my google-like search box to be reviewed, and hopefully included. Because that's a feature we can't work without on our site.
But I still think you should have a personal feedback from Ron before posting such things. Did you try to contact him via the contact form?

#39

koyauni - November 7, 2008 - 13:00

Yes I did now !

"Dear Ron

We are users of your Biblio.Module who are desperately seeking some sort of solution to the dead luck. I have started to look around to see whether we can find some help from other developer to help out or take over, even professional one. Please see the discussion here

http://drupal.org/node/314284

and give us some feedback whether this will be possible from your side.

Many thanks"

But to be honest these comment are in the issue section and I am sure he views them even though he may not have an answer.

#40

ArjanLikesDrupal - November 7, 2008 - 13:10

Since there is so much interest in this module, perhaps Ron could set up a Donation meter, and specify amounts needed to reach specific goals for Biblio. This is assuming that time/money is the problem for further development ;). The advantage would be that Ron already knows what has to be done.

#41

fm - November 18, 2008 - 16:55

How's the "hire a developer" thing going? Any news?

Frank Steiner seems to be cranking out a lot of patches recently. Is he superseding the hire a developer route?

Does anyone have a development plan for the module? I am confused.

#42

rjerome - November 18, 2008 - 17:51

Actually due to some family related issues of late I haven't even been able to check on the issues here.

Just for the record, I will be resuming development of the module this week and hope to resolve the issues which block the release within the next couple of weeks.

Thank you all for your patience and I am truly sorry for the delays, but sometimes life gets in the way.
