With "Node Privacy by Role" installed, I allow and encourage my registered users to address their posts (stories, polls, ...) targeted to the user group i.e. role they are assigned to, so only their 'colleagues' can view their nodes, in exceptional cases to other roles as well (or only) or even to the general public.

I'd like to offer the same functionality with Mailhandler. I'd appreciate to see an appropriate command set, e.g. something like "view: role_a,role_b", "edit: role_b", "delete: role_b", which then would give the users assigned to role "role_a" the right / possibility to view the resulting nodes and those assigned to "role_b" to edit and delete them in addition.

What about this, isn't it a good idea? May I hope to get this wish fulfilled?

The most appropriate way would be to implement hook_mailhandler in "node privacy by role" module.
