The Front page schedule page currently says:

If you have something that's really really interesting to a lot of visitors to drupal.org and you did a really good job of writing the post (images, good writing, proper use of formatting to make it readable) then you can request it to be promoted to the front page.

How am I to include images in my post as recommended by this statement? Thanks.

Here's a proposed improvement to the page which I hope also answers your question:

There are two ways:

1. Assuming you are a member of the documentation team then you should have the ability to insert images into the post. If you aren't a member, consider joining the documentation team. This will also help you add yourself the front page schedule.

2. Upload the files as attachments and then insert them into the post using "img" tags. Be sure to note in your request to be scheduled that the input format needs to be changed to the documentation format so that the images will work.

Thanks greggles, but I don't think method 2 will work. I've attached a screenshot of the submit form for when I post a forum post. There's no possibility to attach anything.

I assume you are talking about http://drupal.org/node/315932 ... which is cool.
All the success stories were converted into book pages, and book pages can have attachments. The process for forum posts to turn into book pages is a little bit magic however.
Issue threads can have attachments, so you can place your images in one of those - like your request for a front page spot - and refer to those URLs. It should work, although it's a little bit round-about.

Yes, the situation is not perfect. It's not possible for unauthorized folk to post images in forum posts. I don't know how it can be done correctly.

Hi dman, yes I am referring to that post. It would be much more attractive with pictures and I even have some ready to go. Your solution sounds good. The problem is that I can't edit it any more! Once you create a post you can't edit it... you can only edit comments. Also I originally tried putting in img tags with references to external images (OK, I went against the guidelines!) but it didn't work - I think img tags get filtered out for unprivileged users, so I don't think it would work anyway.

It's a bit sad that it's very difficult for a non drupal.org expert like me to create a nice writeup with pictures without the help of privileged users. Is there a danger in allowing the insertion of pictures? I suppose I could join the documentation team as you otherwise suggested... that seems like the best way to sort it out now, doesn't it?

The only question on my mind is: How did every other front page case study get filled with images? Were they all written by members of the documentation team?

Yes.

Many of the things you site are site compromises that we have to make either for security or because of lack of features in Drupal5 (i.e. the reason you aren't allowed to edit posts is because in D5 the ability to edit includes the ability to delete which gives the forum node author the ability to delete the comments of other users since deleting a forum node deletes the comments).

Mostly, yes. Joining the docs team is _quite_ easy and highly recommended.

OK, got it. At first I shyed (?) away because I'm worried that if I start fixing the drupal.org site I'll never stop. I'm a bit like that. But anyway... have requested membership now. Let's see what I'll be able to do now...

Alrighty I'm now a member of the doco team and am able to use an input format that allows images.

Only one problem remains: I'm still not able to edit my forum post - for the reason greggles describes above.

What do you recommend I do? I understand my post may not be considered worthy to be promoted to the front page... but it would be nice to have some pictures in there anyway... and it might help.

Regular users cannot add images to pages on drupal.org by default. To be able to do so, you need to either become a member of the Drupal docs team, as described at: http://drupal.org/node/23367, or work with a member of that team to get the images added to the page.

@johnpricecom: Since you're new, maybe you don't realize but totally changing the subject of an issue to something unrelated is frowned on. You should make a forum post for new questions. But first, search, because this is a question that has been asked and answered hundreds, if not thousands of times.
