Hi,
I am torn about this one. I actively maintain several Drupal projects (FrienfList, Drigg, User Karma... etc.).
I am not a squatter, put it this way.
There are two opensocial projects at the moment in Drupal.org. One of them, the maintainer won't respond. The other one, the maintainer responded with a reason why he didn't do anything, and then disappeared. Neither have code.
I already have some code for it. I am inclined to create a project. However, I can't decide if I want to go with the Sandbox or a project.
A project will... well, motivate me more. And it will possibly get more people interested (especially when they see the code).
So... will I be whipped and bashed if I do create shindig_api ? (with code!)

catchIf you've posted in the issue queue for the project, and there's been no response, you can apply to take it over. See http://drupal.org/node/251466 for how this works. If you've not created an issue yet, you've still got two weeks to wait, so maybe a sandbox until then?

mercmobily commentedHi,
What if I don't thing the existing project's names are suitable?
Does it make sense to:
1) Wait to weeks
2) Hope not to get a "lame response"
To get a name that doesn't fit the project?
Merc.

mercmobily commentedHi,
Not sure why you moved this to "project ownership", BTW.

pwolanin commentedDo find the "short name" to be unsuitable (i.e. what's in the URL/CVS repo) or the name you see looking at the project page? The latter is readily changed if you take over the project.

catchThis is a webmasters issue rather than infrastructure, I'm also hoping very much it'll be come a project ownership discussion ;)

Given these issues, I think this module is up for grabs anyway, it's been abandoned much longer than two weeks.
#259611: Status?
#258721: Change the opensocial module maintainer
#214678: Is there any code?

mercmobily commentedHi,
This is a formal request to take over the project "opensocial".
The name is good -- at least, it will be found by people looking for OpenSocial integration.
I maintain 15000 lines of code in Drupal projects, all immaculate blah blah.
People who read this are likely to know me already anyway.
For this project, there will be code very soon.
Bye,
Merc.
