I believe, HS widget doesn't automatically manage "Multiple values" setting properly.
For the Multiple values setting it says "This setting is now managed by the Hierarchical Select widget configuration: it will be enabled when either the Enable the dropbox or Save term lineage settings (or both) are enabled." That seems not to work. If you want to save lineage of terms, you need to enable "Multiple values" setting first, and then enable the HS widget. Otherwise it throws an error in content_taxonomy.module at line 134.

P.S. The same setting on the "Edit vocabulary" settings page is managed correctly, so it may also be a content_taxonomy issue (?).

Yes, it works well in your screencast.
Apparently it is only my problem, I’ve tried two versions of content_taxonomy – the recent 5.x-1.x-dev, and the patched one. But I think you can close this issue anyway.
