Hi all.

I'm looking at sponsoring or co-sponsoring a module for Drupal 6.x to integrate the Frontpage Slideshow (http://www.frontpageslideshow.net/) or similar feature/effect into Drupal front pages.

Frontpage Slideshow itself is not difficult to setup (http://drupal.org/node/265100), however it needs human interference to change the slides. What I want is a Drupal module which embeds Frontpage Slideshow (or allows it to be defined as a block or panel and put wherever you like on the page), and takes the slide data from the last 4-5 stories.

This will require the resize and cropping of the attached images to be used as the slides, and the content for the slide (title and x words) from the top 4-5 stories.

I think this should be possible, and I'm sure I'm not the only one after it. I am willing to put $AU100 towards this, hopefully others are too.

Let me know if you need clarification.

Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan -

Although this could be implemented as a standalone module, you may get what you need using the views_slideshow module - http://drupal.org/project/views_slideshow

We have done something similar for a customer here (in a block on front page):
http://www.cc.org
using views_slideshow and CCK

Please post if you are still interested in a module and I can have someone contact you.

Hi Ryan,

The dynamic display block module (http://ddblock.myalbums.biz/) supports functionality like the frontpage slideshow.

We are now restructuring the module for more flexibility.

at http://ddblock.myalbums.biz/node/318 you can see what the next version supports.

Check it out (http://drupal.org/project/ddblock) and let me know.

Philip

Thanks for that guys.

Philip, your new version of Dynamic Display Block looks like it will fulfill the requirements, as it really does need to show some of the text (title, first few words) from the node.

Current iterations of both modules are excellent for image slideshows, but for slideshows of latest news/articles/etc, I really view the text as important.

Any idea when this new version of Dynamic Display Block will be complete?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

RC2 is ready and functional on our test server. We only want to restructure the module a little bit more to make it more flexible.

Next week we will put it on hhtp://ddblock.myalbums.biz so you can see a working version instead of screenshots.

Because of the reason stated above we can not give a downloadable version yet.

I was looking for the same thing, and found this very cool module:

Thanks Kev. I've been following that ever since, and it looks quite promising, just not the highest priority on the development list at the moment.

Highly recommended for people who want this functionality though! Development team is very helpful too!

hmm
ddblock looks great--but can I put the content OUTSIDE of that picture area? and, can I use custom thumbnails?

I foolishly paid for FPSS without knowing that, and have found the tech support to be non-existent. The thumbs appear to be auto-resized by javascript, and no one has posted a way to do it without modifying source code. Also, I see no way to present the text outside of the picture. If I want text which re-sizes below the picture, it's just not possible.

I provide free Drupal support on Thursdays: booking calendar coming soon.

You can have a look at the examples for theme layouts at http://themes.myalbums.biz.

There are some themes like the Chromatic blue where the slidetext is next to the picture.

If your required layout is not there, you can request your layout.

You can also make a ddblock theme yourself, to create your requested layout.

Hope this helps you further.
We support the module and the themes daily.

That sounds great: does it also allow for custom thumbnail? (i.e. not auto generated)--that's the one thing I can't tell from looking at it.

Yes, it is possible to have another image for the thumbnail as the image for the slide if that is what you mean.

Hi,

I have posted this on Philip's site as well. May be someone here has a general idea how to achieve this.

I was wondering if we can use DDBlock ang Galleria so that we can create scrolls for the gallery.
Right now I am using jCarousel + Galleria on a client's website http://www.perreaultscasa.com/
