Although any logged in member of drupal.org can edit most of the documentation, there are some pages that require elevated rights to edit. A few are set that way on purpose, because they are "sensitive" in some way; this is accomplished by assigning the "Full HTML" input filter to the page. Historically, most pages that were set with restrictive input filters were set that way because the default Filtered HTML input format used to exclude some useful HTML tags, such as IMG and TABLE. This was changed, and most of the pages have now been unlocked from their high-permission formats.

If you find a page that you would like to edit, and (after logging in) you don't have permission to edit it, you can submit an issue to the documentation issue queue to ask for the page to be unlocked, or for an edit to be made by someone with sufficient permissions. Fill out the issue as follows:

  • Component: Other documentation issues
  • Category: task
  • Leave the following at their defaults: Priority: normal, Assigned: Unassigned, and Status: active.
  • Title the issue something like: Unlock a documentation page: or Edits for a locked page:, followed by the title of the locked page.
  • In the issue body, give a link to the page and ask for it to be unlocked or edited. Explain what needs to be changed.

We'll review the page to try to figure out why it was locked, and probably unlock the page. If it needs to stay locked, we'll tell you why. Either way, the issue will be updated to let you know.
