We would need to be able to show multi-choice question in front page of one portal and would be interested in adding such functionality to quiz/multichoice, but would need some help. Could someone please tell from where to start, we are not experienced in doing this kind of thing (we are experienced in using views, not programming modules for them)?

You could try to use views, or you could try to use the quiz block project(haven't tested it myself).
