I have a strange case:

Updated from RC1 to RC6, incl. JQuery 2 and the patch to Views 1.6. Ran Update.php without errors, but also without any modules listed with available updates.

Result:

In the modules page, Hierarchical Select is still listed as RC1.
Status log:
"The version of Views that you have installed is either older than May 11, 2008, or doesn't have the obligatory patch applied. Please apply the patch or update to a newer version of the Views module"

Testing by enabling multiple select for a vocabulary does not save the new settings, which is one of the bugs that RC6 should not have. So I am not sure if there is something wrong in the RC6 download?

Attached is the views.module with the patch applied by hand. Not sure if something went wrong when doing that. Just added one line to the original 1.6 release from 2007.

Impossible. You must have forgotten to overwrite your .info file.

Then that's the problem, you didn't apply the *patch*. You extracted the actual code change. I check if the patch itself was applied. See http://drupal.org/patch/apply.
