Sorry for the newbie type question, I moderator a lot of content and regularly post "Only stupid question is one not asked. A really stupid question is asked before attempting to Google " ... but I'm trying to decide whether drupal is the right platform for a project, looking for the EASY BUTTON answer as I got a test site up running.
I need a social site with the "facebook/aol element of a garden wall" or members only. Luring content to join will be open to anyone, but 99% of the site and user content needs to be behind a wall. Not to mention RSS buttons all over the place rip branches out of the garden wall easily too.
With out giving away my community... I want to network 2 groups of people and leave out a 3rd group.
- Group A provides a service and some sell there own service to end client.
- Group B sells service only to clients (middle guy).
- Group C is the client. Don't want them to see what A&B are talking about behind the wall or piss group B off by easily getting contact info to group A.
The site will not be promoted via search engines and will be word of mouth spread. All members will require approval by qualification to join.
I'm testing elgg too which can be behind a wall and has it's advantages but drupal is faster, way more modules and a larger community.
Thanks in advance

Drupal should be able to do
Drupal should be able to do this no problem. IMO the 3 main ways of segmenting content are:
===
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." - Lao Tzu
"God helps those who help themselves." - Ben Franklin
"Search is your best friend." - Worldfallz
Thanks
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'll be implementing this out tonight and will post how comfy I am with the result.
If anyone is going down same path OR has already done a members only drupal site feel free to message me.

Woo Hoo
The 3 suggested ways to limit access to content is complicated for me. Not given up yet but am I ever killing a lot of time trying to get one of these to work.
For http://drupal.org/project/og series of modules ...underlying modules are still Release Candidate, Beta or even Alpha. I'm trying this now.
For http://drupal.org/project/domain module ... that's a wicked install, I tried twice and failed
For "Controlling Access to Content by Configuring Groups as Roles" again underlying module only available for Drupal 5, I think if I understood correct.
"Picking myself back up now and trying again."
