How can I get a block of add this with the full selection of places to add, without it being a small button. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean, could you please provide an example on what you are trying to do?

Well currently the block of add this displays only a button, when you hover over it you get the list of places to add. How wouuld I get the block to display that list, instead of the button which you have to hover over.

Unfortunately that is not possible with current version of Addthis button. If somebody wants to implement this feature I will happily accept a patch.
