I want to translate a module (diff) that doesn't have spanish.

Looking at the translations folder I find .pot file that contains all the English strings & I can see that the other translations translate the blank msgstr into their language. It looks very easy to do, but I'm thinking that once I've done it I'd like to give it back to the module developers so they can use it.

If I proceed like that will my translation compile with standards & be useful?

I can't find any documentation that gives me further ideas about how to proceed.

Does this section of the handbooks not have what you need: http://drupal.org/contribute/translations, specifically Translation of contributed modules? If not, please let us know what you are looking for and where so we can create an issue to add the documentation.

The page that looks like it would have the info I need is here http://drupal.org/node/314231 but it is empty

Anyway I shall just try doing it & if it works on my drupal, try to contact the module maintainers to offer it to them.

If it works maybe I'll write the page myself!!

Definitely help write the page - that would be awesome! If you do get it worked out, then you can create an issue in the module's queue and attach your translation file to it.

I wrote a translation, but now I've found I can't install the module either with or without my translation & I can't work out why. It just doesn't appear in the modules. The version is right et al.

I cannot install any modules. Don't know why. Started a new post about it here http://drupal.org/node/324178
