user propagation not working for me

I don't know if I am using the new version correctly.
1)using 5.x-5.0 of subgroups, and OG 5.x-7.2
2) i get the correct configuration screen listing parent / child if i select parent does this mean parents propogate down the tree to the children groups? if i select child, does this mean that child membership propogates up to the parent groups?
3) used to be able to see what subgroups a group had in a subgroup tab. is this still available somewhere?
4) is there a way to exclude a user from propoagation if I add a user, like a consultant for example, to a working group but don't want to add him to the general staff (parent group) since he is not an employee of the parent company?
5) is this supposed to work for existing groups? I have tried to add a new user and does not propagate no matter if I set parent or child?
6) is there any way to get membership of existing groups to propagate to parent groups?

I guess I forgot two more important questions ...
7) Since this is an OG "sensitive" module, is there a way to do this propagation on a per group basis? I have only seen one configuration control page that looks like propagation is a single switch being set for the entire site. Is this correct?

8) Is there any documentation at all for this module? I am usually one who does as much reading and research as possible before asking questions. The readme in the download just references what seems to be a single not-to-informative manual page in the drupal handbook...
(if there is a way that whoever has privilages could change the title of this issue to "A bunch of general support questions about propagation.... I don't know how to do that either :)
