I installed Drupal. It looks good for basic blogging/forums, but here's what I really need:

  • Allow site visitors to sign up and create their own profile pages, with picture upload, interest categories, etc.
  • Allow registered users to find and interact with other members, based on interest categories.
  • Can I do this with Drupal? Does it have anything to do with the FOAF stuff? Where to start? Are there other plugins/modules I should install first? Or should I look for a different platform altogether, like Barnraiser's AroundMe?

    I came across this page.

Profiles, buddylists, and shared interests. What modules and features directly relate to social networking? What features do other standalone systems have that still remain to be implemented in Drupal? How to encourage other projects/businesses to use Drupal as the starting point for social networking systems?

It all sounds very promising! Did anything come out of this?

This page cryptically suggests there is a module that does what I'm looking for. Ourmedia.org apparently is using it. But it doesn't say where I can get this module! This is incredibly frustrating!

I'm interested in this as well. This shouldn't be a big issue. Currently I'm running the buddy-list module which is a step in the right direction.

I think what you're looking for is something closer to is tribe.net -TLh

Yes, something like Tribe, Friendster, etc.

I think the module Marc Canter was talking about is here.

I haven't installed it yet and I'm not sure if it's the complete solution. Marc Canter:

So we hired Moshe to flesh out his Groups module and then we got Tekriti to amp it up more and now - finally we're live with Groups in ourmedia.org.

Where's the fleshed out, amped up version of this module? Or is it proprietary to Ourmedia.org...?

And here's a fork of Organic Groups. What should I use?
