When I change the "Hypelink conversion" toggle in the "HTML to text conversion" section to "Display hyperlinks and links to image inline with the text" the links are stille appended and referenced as a numbered list.

Can you reproduce this on a clean simplenews install (no other simplenews or mail related modules enabled)?
