Transfer node permissions/author between users

rmassamiri - November 7, 2008 - 06:50

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or knows of a module that might allow one user to transfer/hand off a node to another user. When user A creates the node, that user is the only one with permissions to edit and delete the node. Can that user transfer the permission of being the only one to edit and delete that node to another user, say user B? Maybe user B can even send a request to have the permissions transfered to them. I'm not trying to have both user A and user B share permission in editing and deleting the node. Is this possible? If so, does anyone have any suggestions on how? Thank you.

i've not tried it-- but I would think changing the author of the node would handle this.

Hi WorldFallz! That worked

Hi WorldFallz! That worked great. Logged in as admin I'm able to edit the Author info, but when I'm logged in as a user, I don't get the Author info options in the Edit screen. I looked through the user permissions and I don't see a setting there. How do I allow users to edit Author info? Thanks, Rani

unfortunately, iirc, it's tied to the 'administer nodes' permission. I would have recommended the http://drupal.org/project/edit_authoring_info module, but it doesn't appear to be updated to d6 yet. though it's such a tiny module, the coder and deadwood modules might be able to do the update for you. Another option is the http://drupal.org/project/override_node_options module which does have a dev d6 version you could try.

I just tried the override_node_options module and it let's you change all the authoring info except the actual author! What a bummer.

And it seems that

And it seems that edit_authoring_info module has had several requests to upgrade to d6, but nothing yet. :-(

it's tiny-- i would try running it through the coder and deadwood modules-- it might just work.

Thanks for the vote of confidence WorldFallz! Considering I have extremely little knowledge of coding and alike, I still tried looking at coder and deadwood - I even downloaded and installed deadwood. Needles to say, they were both way over my head. I sure wish I could help a bit more on the development/coding side, but I'm afraid I'm not there yet. Thanks.

i can't make any promises,

i can't make any promises, but if I get a chance to take a look at it i'll post back.

Great! I'll give it a try, although it looks like you hit a couple snags. Thank you for looking into it.
