I'm a professional writer willing to help with the ui text.

To get started, here is a rewrite of the text for admin/build/block:

>>>
On this page you can set a block's title and visibility with the 'configure' link; assign a block to a region through the drop down menu; and assign a block to a region or arrange block order within regions by dragging the target icon. (Blocks are positioned relative to the current theme; themes often implement regions in different ways.) The 'delete' link removes non-core blocks: the 'add block' tab creates a custom block.

Changes are not saved until you click the 'Save blocks' button below.
>>>

I've never contributed to Drupal before, and need some guidance to proceed.

Thanks -- Will Hall

So this change will need to be provided as a .patch file - there's instructions on how to create one at http://drupal.org/patch/create - or if you drop into #drupal on irc, there's plenty of people who'd be happy to walk you through it. Also active (needs more info) is the status we use to say 'I can't reproduce this bug, so hiding this away until someone comes back and explains how to' - you're better off setting this to 'active'. If you get stuck on patch creation, please let us know.

@willhall: Great. We have a definite need for writers with professional experience; thanks for volunteering to help!

In regard to this specific issue, can you comment here http://drupal.org/node/340535 instead? This one is actually a duplicate of that one, which was filed yesterday by birdmanx35. You may also want to use the "Advanced Search" (at the top of the page) to review other string changes in the "user interface text" queue.

Thanks for replying -- the problem is that there is a skillset gap between copyediting and working with the patch code. Is there someone I can team up with so I can move through the copy-editing by url and then we can get it into the proposed patch?

It's sort of a category error between coding and copy editing, which I think is part of why the copy editing and ui text needs have been lagging behind in the project, if this makes sense.
